Providence, Utah
Providence was settled in 1859. It is a relatively small city, with a land area of 2.83 square miles. It feels like a small, rural town, but also has a significant commercial district with stores, restaurants, a movie theater, and many professional and medical offices.
The city's population in 2008 is estimated at about 6,500 and is growing rapidly. 95% of its residents belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The current mayor is Randy Simmons, who is a professor of political science at Utah State University.
